Deadline to submit nominations for West Virginia small businesses is Jan. 10, 2017

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Small Business Development Center is joining the call for state and national nominations to honor West Virginia businesses with the U.S. Small Business Administration Small Business Week Awards. The deadline for entries is Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017.

The West Virginia SBA District Office is also accepting nominations for 2017 District Level West Virginia Small Business Week Awards.

“West Virginia entrepreneurs are an innovative, passionately committed and hardworking group. The West Virginia SBDC has had the privilege of working closely with our state’s enterprising men and women to help their businesses thrive,” said Kristina Oliver, state director of the WVSBDC. “The national and West Virginia District Small Business Week Awards are great opportunities to recognize and celebrate their years of hard work, many accomplishments and valued contributions that have helped ensure West Virginia is a great place to live and work now and for decades to come.”

Nomination forms and guidelines are available from www.sba.gov/nsbw/awards.
The entry packets must be hand delivered or mailed to an SBA office. In West Virginia, nomination packets may be delivered to 320 West Pike Street, Suite 330 Clarksburg, WV 26330. No online or emailed entries will be accepted.

The West Virginia District Office award categories are:

  • West Virginia Young Entrepreneur of the Year  
  • West Virginia Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year
  • West Virginia Encore Entrepreneur of the Year           
  • West Virginia Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year
  • West Virginia Family-Owned Small Business of the Year       
  • West Virginia Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year    
  • West Virginia Small Business Champion of the Year

National Small Business Week has been celebrated each year since 1963 to highlight the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. In 2017, Small Business Week takes place April 30 – May 6.

The WVSBDC is part of the West Virginia Development Office and creates economic impact through offering entrepreneurs and small businesses cost-effective business coaching and technical assistance. The WVSBDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the SBA and is an Accredited Member of America’s SBDC network.
