WV SBDC participates in first-ever Child Care Roundtable at White House

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — On March 25, 2024, the West Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) participated in the first-ever Child Care Roundtable discussion, hosted by the Small Business Administration and Administrator Isabel Guzman.

“We were thrilled to be invited to the White House for the first-ever Child Care Roundtable, hosted by the Small Business Administration and Administrator Isabel Guzman,” said WV SBDC Director, Steve Johnson. “It was such an honor for WV SBDC Regional Coordinator Shannon Mitchell to be selected to represent the Small Business Development Centers in this inaugural meeting.”

The event underscored the importance of addressing challenges within the child care sector.

Initiatives that were discussed are aimed at increasing capital access, seek to support child care capacity expansion and address financial barriers faced by small businesses in the child care sector.

The landscape of the child care industry in West Virginia has many different rules and regulations that can be challenging for entrepreneurs and small business owners to navigate. The WV SBDC has developed resource guides to assist small businesses with this information, available here.

These guides are designed to aid small business owners and startups along with one-on-one assistance from a WV SBDC Business Coach.
